Nicola Formosa was born in 1973 in Florence, where he continues to live and work. After finishing Art School he obtained his diploma at the Florence Academy of Fine Arts. He began painting while still a student and since then he has never stopped.
In 1999 he started exhibiting his work both in Italy and abroad, with personal exhibitions and taking part in numerous events including “Artisti per Emergency”, “Florence Design Week”, the “Art Point Black Firenze” travelling exhibition, “Raiffeisenbank Waldsassen” and “Gallery Project Copenhagen”. His eclecticism and high degree of empathy have led Nicola Formosa to take part in collective events and initiatives which are held in some of the best-known venues and cultural centres in his home town and elsewhere. It is a means of expressing and challenging himself even in moments of extemporaneous painting, art of the moment, interactivity and performing arts.
Nicola Formosa draws elements from daily life to reinvent his own very personal visual universe. The signs, symbols, faces repeated and arranged in series transform the canvas into a very new visionary surface, where the image is disturbed by intersecting multiple interferences: crossed by horizontal distortions, like mass-media energy fields which inevitably change shape; dirtied with scratches or traces of paint, or with traces of motifs simulating the pixels of video images.
Each of these elements for Nicola contributes to enlarging this great, playful and highly imaginative world contained in his canvases. His rough surfaces are time punctuated by mechanical signs, undefined constructions, three dimensional arrangements, by colours and soul.
